Roche Biomarker Program

The Roche Biomarker Program (RBP) was established in 2003. It evolved from the Joint Program in Applied Genomics (JPAG) and integrates the efforts Roche has made in Integrated Healthcare Solutions and other initiatives aimed at finding synergies between the Pharmaceutical and Diagnostics divisions.

The Roche Biomarker Program encompasses a very broad scientific, technological and market vision, including the application of proteomic, genomic and imaging approaches to drive the discovery and validation of biomarkers in support of the therapy areas being pursued by the Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics divisions.

Biomarkers can define diseases at the molecular level and help us to identify new targets for therapeutic intervention, as well as characterize the appropriate individuals for such treatment. They may be able to help us monitor disease progression or predict which patients are likely to suffer adverse effects. Biomarkers may also help to determine a patient’s response to therapy and even help “target” which patients are likely to respond to a particular medicine.

These approaches will help to develop better targeted medicines with increased clinical differentiation and that ultimately benefit the patient.
