Because of the dramatic improvement in first year graft survival, the transplant community is increasing focused on optimizing long-term outcomes for the graft and patient by taking an individualized approach to medicine.
An important component of any program designed to optimize outcomes includes tailoring the immunosuppressive regimen to the specific needs of the patient. TDM has historically been required for many immunosuppressive agents because of significant patient-to-patient pharmacokinetic variability.
Roche is exploring the use of TDM with CellCept in the OptiCeptTM trial to identify whether optimized outcomes may be achieved through therapeutic drug monitoring.
